In January last year, the Coalition for a Principled Republic began distributing the CPR Lifeline Advisory newsletter on Substack after a disastrous effort with the multiple attacks on the Citizen Sentinels Network website. We are still here and still posting this newsletter! So, pardon us while we break our arms patting ourselves on the back… We are happy that our readers held on for the ride in the greater scheme of things.
As Christians, conservatives and patriots “hit the beach” for commencing a brand new year, the Coalition for a Principled Republic will continue to post our newsletters at least twice a month, unless there is some outside force that derails us from that intent.
The framework of a society that has been established upon the principles of our rights coming from God is under attack. We are in a spiritual war, whether good people realize it or not. Sadly, the cornerstone principles seem to be of less importance today, so many American citizens may have no clue. But, because there is a remnant of faithful and stalwart patriots, the foundations of the Judeo-Christian heritage can be revived among the Christian citizens who seek God’s Will in such a time as this. Working on one’s own can only accomplish so much, and “Lone Rangers” may need to re-think how effective they are as a single voice crying in the wilderness. We began the nation by uniting, putting strong egos aside, working together in humility to form the greatest nation on the planet. “We the People” can do it all over again. But, we will need God’s help just as the Founders also needed His guidance and grace.
The Coalition for a Principled Republic exists to help re-align “We the People” with self-evident truths as they are rooted in the Judeo-Chrsitian values and ideals of our founding documents. We take pains to reveal the self-evident truths and to help truth prevail. We are now determined to work even harder in 2024 for the sake of promoting those values and ideals as a way of life and a way of exercising our freedom of expression.
As we embark upon this new year and put all the season’s festivities behind us, we hope that despite the new distractions, deceptions, or diversions, consistently seeking the truth and being courageous, we all can move forward together. United “W the People” stand. Divided we will fall. The CPR will continue to empower those who have been awakened to take action to retain our Republic. Today we are offering messages of how Americans survived before America came to exist. Our first featured message is one I wrote as an update of sentiments I’ve expressed in years before. It seems necessary to express them again.
The second message is from Bill Federer on a similar or parallel event in the dark days of the fight for Freedom by volunteers who had no guarantee that their efforts would lead to the new nation. And, in light of all our aggregates today, please receive what you’re able to receive and please take to heart what you may receive through this edition. Digest what you can, and leave the rest. You wouldn’f go into a grocery store and grab all the items off the shelves, and we do not expect people to try and read all we offer to all our readers.
Yet, we do hope readers would find value in our newsletters. We hope our efforts may serve a greater purpose, and we always hope that they are worthy of the investment of time and energy for all involved, our various volunteers who make this possible as well as our valued readers. Emerging from the “Dark Winter,” Courage or Cowardice Will Shape the Future of Our Constitutional Republic

As we enter the new year of 2024, those who love the Republic, and who are willing to fight for it, need to “Be strong and courageous! ...not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." Joshua 31:6
In the midst of the winter of ‘23 - ‘24, it may be hard to consider that what “We the People” do or do not do this year may shape the future of America for a long time to come. The year of 2024 is an election year, and both those who love the Republic and those who hate it will be contesting in unrelenting strife, not only at the ballot box, but also in the traditional ways of messaging, as well as untraditional ways of stifling free communication, free expression and freedom of one’s voice via voting in fair and honest elections.
Seven years ago, during the final presidential debate between President Donald Trump and former Vice President Joe Biden, the one who is now in the White House stated a “dark winter” would set in across America. Biden was referencing the COVID time and the vaccines that the government had been attempting to force upon everyone – even those in our armed forces. Yet, America survived the Biden Administration’s dark winter.
It is possible that Americans have suffered through several dark winters lately, but if one sees beyond our current circumstances, Americans have suffered through many deeply tragic and dark winters. America still stands. In my humble opinion, it is because of the American citizens that America still stands. It is because of the American citizens that America still exists and ever came into existence. The courageous men and women of this country seek ways to take action to preserve the Republic; and those who cannot take action, will donate to help those who are unafraid of exercising their God-given rights. But, for those who have been paying attention to the current government actions – both on the national level and the state levels, the government of the people, by the people, and for the people is disappearing.
Historian Victor Davis Hanson relates a similar perception in this book, The Dying Citizen. The good professor sees the future of America linked to the choices before the American citizen – whether We the People” remain complacent or detached or fearful, or whether citizens seize the day and become engaged in this moment and awakened to action to take ownership over our citizenship. Wallowing in the apparent problems can become a hobby to some, who like to bitch and blame others while doing nothing to effectuate genuine or substantial solutions or changes to lay the foundation for effective and lasting solutions to America’s existential crisis.
Hanson would agree that the future of the Republic as it was constructed is on the line. He sees that without “shock treatment, this may go the way of demise like other great nations in history. It is noit a cynical perception, but those who understand history, can appreciate that it is citizens or the people of a nation who shape the course of the nation’s success or failure. Those who know history well can see the proverbial “handwriting on the wall.” Those who remain asleep will have a harsh awakening; but those who have awakened need to not only wake up, but also to rise up, to speak up, to act up in order to keep the Republic.
This has already been happening from the days of 9/11: some citizens were shocked and then awakened into new perceptions of America and the sincerity of our leaders, the transparency of our government, the stability of our institutions, and the authenticity of our religious foundations.
It will continue to happen as the American citizens emerge from their self-centered cocoons of comfort and illusion. The question is whether there will be much more mercy upon unwillingness to act. It is truth, no matter who it can be attributed to, that all it takes for evil to triumph is for the good people to do nothing. It is quite evident that either America has few good people anymore, or too few good people are willing to do anything during another dark winter.
In December of 1776, American colonists were facing a dark winter as well, before America became America. Only six months after proclaiming the Declaration of Independence, the War for Independence appeared to be lost. The relentless onslaught of the powerful British military overwhelmed the rag - tag band of American “troops.” Devastating losses at Fort Washington and Fort Lee in New York left many colonists doubting General Washington’s capabilities and the overall wisdom in declaring “independence” and taking on the mightiest military force upon the planet. The powerful British forces had chased General Washington out of New York, out of New Jersey, and had re-occupied three colonies. Washington had retreated into Pennsylvania, but the British forces had pursued the colonials to within miles of Philadelphia, the very birthplace of American Liberty.
In that dark winter, it appeared to many that the entire fight for independence was about to flame-out as a noble, but a lost cause. Freedom seemed to be on its deathbed. Many Continental troops had been captured, some were executed, and many remaining of the beleaguered men had their enlistments coming to an end in this time. Several decided not to wait and went AWOL. On top of all of this, Washington’s troops were in dire need of supplies. Many men only had summer uniforms or lacked proper boots. But, good favor shined upon the father of our country. British Commander, General Sir William Howe directed his forces to prepare for winter quarters. Likely in his arrogance, he may have felt that the war would be soon won in the Spring. Regardless, the British pursuit came to a halt for the winter.
During the long pursuit, even the morale of the enlisted Continentals had grown dull and some in Congress began to question their choice of Commander. But, this history is full of stories of how, in such times of trial, great leaders emerge. It was such a time for George Washington. He knew an attack, if successful, could turn things around and restore a bit of confidence in the colonists’ pursuit of Independence. Washington’s plan to attack the Hessians at Trenton on the other side of the Delaware River is now famous because it was brazen, yet victorious. This attack took place the day after Christmas, and it proved possible to turn the tide in the war to some extent because the victory showed that the Americans would not give up their fight for freedom.
Just before this attack, on December 19, Thomas Paine published the first volume of a series of his pamphlets entitled The American Crisis. The very first edition was reported to have been written by the light of a campfire on top of a drum head. Amazingly, the words apply to the war we are now currently engaged in. The now famous “Crisis,” begins:
These are the times that try men's souls: The summer soldier and
The sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his
country; but he that stands by it now, deserves the love and thanks
of man and woman. Tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered; yet we have this consolation with us, that the harder the conflict, the more glorious the triumph.
True then, and true now. General Washington had Paine’s pamphlet read to his troops on December 23, 1776, just two days before Christmas, when he asked them to march, not to retreat more, but to go on offense and to attack a most formidable enemy. Those men spent their Christmas Day marching - all day - just to get to a ferry crossing point on the Delaware that evening. They finally got across the river about 3 a.m., and still had to march on to Trenton. They attacked around 8 a.m. The spark from Paine’s American Crisis must have burned in them along the way, despite the rain, the sleet, and the snow they had to brave.
Today there are many battles yet to face, and patriots are still fighting though our souls have been tried again and again, but this war is an existential fight, a fight for America’s very soul.
Would be tyrants under the guise of great deception and widespread manipulation are trying to destroy our freedoms. Indeed, “tyranny, like hell, is not easily conquered…” Patriots today still have more marches, more rivers to cross, more battles to fight. It is high time for citizens to take courage and to unite and to win the battles before us. It is time to reclaim ownership of our citizenship.

Frederick the Great of Prussia called these ten days “the most brilliant in the world’s history.”
After winning the Battle of Trenton, Christmas Day evening, 1776, George Washington’s 1,200 man force faced General Cornwallis’ 4,500 man British army. Washington was fighting the army of the globalist King of Great Britain — the most powerful military on the planet.
On the night of January 2, 1777, Washington left his campfires burning and marched his army around the back of a portion of Cornwallis’ army – the 1,400 British troops camped at Princeton, New Jersey. He ordered his soldiers to march in absolute silence, even wrapping their guns with heavy cloth to lessen the noise of troop movement.
British commander Lord Cornwallis ordered Colonel Mawhood to join his regiments to the rest of the British army. This providentially resulted in the British ceasing to patrol the very roads Washington was marching on. At daybreak, January 3, 1777, Washington attacked the British from behind. This was similar to what the British did to the Americans at the Battle of Brooklyn Heights a little over four months earlier.
At the Battle of Princeton, the surprised British immediately fought back, sending forth a bayonet charge which killed dozens of American soldiers. One of those killed was General Hugh Mercer, who had fought with Washington in the French and Indian War, and in the Battle of Trenton.
Hugh Mercer’s descendants included WWII General George S. Patton.
After Mercer was killed, the British pressed their counter-attack. The American militia under General John Cadwalader began to panic and flee. To stop the retreat, General George Washington immediately rode to the front of the line and ordered the soldiers to stop running away. He commanded them to turn around and follow him back to the front lines. Washington rode extremely close to the British, within just 30 yards.
Turning and facing his men, Washington yelled: “Halt!” - “Aim,” - then “Fire!”
The British immediately fired a volley in return. The field of battle was filled with a cloud of smoke. Many thought Washington was surely shot, as he was exposed to fire from both sides.
Irishman John Fitzgerald, who was an American aide-de-camp, pulled down his hat down to cover his eyes so as to not see Washington killed. But when the smoke cleared, to their dismay, Washington was seen on his horse, waving to his men to charge ahead.
The Americans charged and won a great victory at the Battle of Princeton. An estimated 100 British were killed or wounded, and over 300 captured, as compared to only 23 Americans killed and 20 wounded.
Enthusiasm swept America. Though it took nearly seven more years of fighting till the Revolutionary War ended, this battle was a major turning point.
British historian Sir George Otto Trevelyan wrote of the American victories at Trenton and Princeton: “It may be doubted whether so small a number of men ever employed so short a space of time with greater and more lasting effects upon the history of the world.”
President Calvin Coolidge stated October 28, 1925: “Distinguished military critics have described Washington’s campaign of Trenton and Princeton as a military exploit of unparalleled Brilliancy.”
The equestrian statue at Washington Circle in Washington, D.C., depicts General Washington at the Battle of Princeton.
At the statue’s dedication in 1860, sculptor Clark Mills stated: “… at the Battle of Princeton where Washington, after several ineffectual attempts to rally his troops, advanced so near the enemy’s lines that his horse refused to go further, but stood and trembled while the brave rider sat undaunted with reins in hand. But while his noble horse is represented thus terror stricken, the dauntless hero is calm and dignified, ever believing himself the instrument in the hand of Providence to work out the great problem of liberty.”
Yale President Ezra Stiles described General George Washington as the American version of the Israelite commander Joshua, in an Election Address before the Governor and General Assembly of Connecticut, May 8, 1783: “Congress put at the head of this spirited army, the only man, on whom the eyes of all Israel were placed …
… This American Joshua was raised up by God, and divinely formed by a peculiar influence of the Sovereign of the Universe, for the great work of leading the armies of this American Joseph … and conducting this people through the severe, the arduous conflict, to liberty and independence …”
Ezra Stiles continued:
“In our lowest and most dangerous estate in 1776 and 1777, we sustained ourselves against the British army of sixty thousand troops commanded by Howe, Burgoyne, and Clinton, and other the ablest generals Britain could procure throughout Europe, with a naval force of 22,000 seamen in above eighty British men of war …
… This was sealed and confirmed by God Almighty in the victory of General Washington at Trenton, and in the surprising movement and battle of Princeton; by which astonishing effort of generalship, General Howe and the whole British army, in elated confidence and in open-mouthed march for Philadelphia, was instantly stopped, remanded back, and cooped up for a shivering winter in the little borough of Brunswick.
Thus God turned the battle to the gate; and this gave a finishing to the foundation of the American Republic …”
Stiles ended:
“Who but a Washington, inspired by Heaven, could have struck out the great movement and maneuver of Princeton? …
The United States are under peculiar obligations to become a holy people unto the Lord our God.”
