Tuesday Bulletin
Ten years ago I wrote an article on George Washington for the Washington Times that helps explain why America is in the state it is in today. Washington and the Founding generation saw the inherent weaknesses in the Republic, and central was the danger of political parties. It seems to be my only article in their archives; all the rest were purged as most writers during a change of corporate control wanted to retain ownership of their content. Like Separatists we migrated to create our own online source called the Communities Digital News. Nevertheless, the article on Washington survived: https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2014/dec/31/george-washingtons-views-political-parties-america/
So what? Well, yesterday was a public celebration of George Washington’s birthday, but most citizens did not even know it because confusion surrounds the remembrance of our first president’s birthday in the present day. The third Monday of February has legally been designated by the United States’ Congress as a day to remember the birthday of George Washington, and some calendars will accurately designate it so. However, other calendars depict the third Monday in February as “President’s Day” and others as “Presidents’ Day.”
So, what’s the big deal? Well, for one thing, English punctuation is important and it sends messages to those able to decipher the subtle distinctions. If U.S. citizens are celebrating “Presidents’ Day,” they are in fact celebrating or honoring all the other presidents of the United States along with good old George Washington. This is because the apostrophe after the “s” at the end of the word presidents designates a plural reality. This means to the careful reader that the holiday is a celebration of all
forty plus former presidents and the current occupant of the White House.
So, what’s the big deal? It should not be that difficult to sort out the simple recognition of George Washington’s Birthday. But, that’s the point. Most citizens do not recognize the third Monday in February as George Washington’s birthday. Most see it as Presidents’ Day – a celebration of all America’s presidents – the good, the bad, the ugly. This truly has diluted the value of honoring the “Father of our country.“ If one can water down the value of the Father of our country, it is just a few steps in time to being able to devalue any president – no matter who it may be.
So, what’s the big deal? These ex-presidents are just men.
These ex-presidents are just men, but some rose above their circumstances to do incredible things - like creating a country, or saving a nation, or reviving the dream of American exceptionalism, or American greatness. What we are witnessing in our time is a struggle not just to demean or devalue men of greatness, but the greatness of One Nation Under God. Americans who are paying attention are becoming aware. They get it. Americans who are paying attention are rising up as they glimpsed all the proverbial “handwriting on the wall.” Americans who are paying attention are standing up and they are speaking out. But, if they do nothing about what they understand is occurring right before our eyes, we will lose more than the value of a birthday.
One of those who gets it is Hal Shurtleff, Director of Camp Constitution. We alerted our readers to their case before the Supreme Court earlier this year. Today, Hal Shurtleff is the messenger of the feature story in this edition. He remembers George Washington and is trying to share about this one man’s greatness and value to the formation of One Nation Under God. We also offer a recent interview that Mr. Shurtleff conducted with the leader of Young Women for America, Annabelle Rutledge. Readers will find it as a podcast under our “Video Views” segment today.
We hope readers enjoy Mr. Shurtleff’s article today, as well as all of our aggregated links to great info. Absorb, raise your awareness, and share what you have learned with those you care about, and those you feel need to awaken! Become a Citizen Sentinel!

Happy Birthday George Washington: Camp Constitution will always honor your memory and legacy
February 22, 2022 marks the 290th anniversary of the birth of George Washington, who, in this writer’s opinion, was the greatest man born in America. As the Cultural Marxists denigrate him, we at Camp Constitution will always honor his memory and legacy. While there are numerous biographies written about this great and good man, I recommend two short books and his “Farewell Address”
“Washington’s 110 Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior”
He wrote these 110 rules when he was 16 years old from a set of rules established by French Jesuits in 1595.
Here is a sampling of those rules:
“When in Company, put not your Hands to any Part of the Body, not usually Discovered.”
“Washington’s 110 Rules of Civility and Decent Behavior”
“Show Nothing to your Friend that may affright him.”
“In the Presence of Others Sing not to yourself with a humming Noise, nor Drum with your Fingers or Feet.”
“The Bulletproof George Washington”:
An account of George Washington’s part in the July 9th, 1755, battle during the French and Indian War.
During the two-hour battle, the 23-year-old Colonel Washington had ridden on the battlefield, delivering the general’s orders to other officers and troops. The officers had been a special target for the Indians. Of the eighty-six British and American officers, sixty-three were casualties. Washington was the only officer on horseback not shot down.
Following the battle, Washington wrote a letter to his brother in which he readily and openly acknowledged:
“By the all-powerful dispensations of Providence, I have been protected beyond all human probability or expectation; for I had four bullets through my coat, and two horses shot under me, yet escaped unhurt, although death was leveling my companions on every side of me!”
Fifteen years later, an old, respected Indian chief sought out Washington. The chief, explaining that he had led the Indians against them in the battle fifteen years earlier, revealed to Washington what had occurred behind the scenes during the conflict:
“I called to my young men and said, mark yon tall and daring warrior. Quick, let your aim be certain, and he dies. Our rifles were leveled, rifles which, but for you, knew not how to miss–’twas all in vain, a power mightier far than we shielded you. Seeing you were under the special guardianship of the Great Spirit, we immediately ceased to fire at you…I am come to pay homage to the man who is the particular favorite of Heaven, and who can never die in battle.”
His “Farewell Address”
Washington’s plan to retire from office would come to be known as his “Farewell Address.” In 1792, when Washington considered leaving office, he had James Madison write a draft. In 1796, Alexander Hamilton did a rewrite and Washington edited it. The “American Daily Advertiser,” a paper in Philadelphia, the seat of the nation’s capital at the time, published it on September 19, 1796. Here are a few of the points that have stood the test of time: “Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain, would man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness”
“It is important, likewise, that the habits of thinking in a free country should inspire caution in those entrusted with its administration to confine themselves within their respective constitutional spheres, avoiding the exercise of the power of one department to encroach upon another. The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments into one, and thus create whatever the form of government, a real despotism” and…
“The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is in extending our commercial relations, to have with them as little political connection as possible.”
May this generation of Americans endeavor to keep George Washington’s legacy alive for generations yet unborn.

We continue to urge citizens to take ownership of the responsibility to keep the Republic!
Ownership of our Republic is now the fight of our time! Keeping our Republic depends upon the genuine sense of ownership of the Land of the Free. Either this is our country, or it will belong to those who are actively seeking to take it from us. It is the same mentality that inspired someone long ago to express the sentiment that “All it takes for evil to triumph is that good people do nothing.” Efforts to take responsibility for keeping this nation a free Republic are organically occurring right now all across the nation.
The Citizens Voice provides information that the mainstream media hopes people don’t receive. Forward these newsletters to your friends and let them witness, first hand, that there is more than one side to a story. Then they will begin to understand the peril that our nation is in and be able to make informed decisions.
We are truly thankful for all of our readers who have chosen to assist our efforts in bringing the information and words of encouragement to all Americans we can possibly reach. We are truly grateful for the generous donations from our fellow Citizen Sentinels. It helps us keep going as a truly volunteer effort. Thank you so very much for whatever can be given.
"If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin." ~ Samuel Adams, 1776
Remember, an educated and enlightened citizenry is vital for our future. As it has been written:
“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18 - KJV
