CSN - Citizen Voice Bulletin - 2/21/2023
Tuesday Bulletin
FOUNDER’S MESSAGE:
Yesterday was the day popularly referred to as “President’s Day” in some realms of the United States, yet it is not an official U.S. holiday. Tomorrow is George Washington’s official birthday, but it rightfully remains the official federal holiday observed yesterday. Confusing? Yes, it is all confusing, but it is the very least of the confusion plaguing the nation at this time. We have a number of issues that are covered in today’s edition, and many of them are approaching danger levels if pursued – dangerous to individual citizens, dangerous to the various states, and clearly dangerous to the Constitution and toi the very fabric of the Republic. The government is being severed from the nation, or in other words, the government “of the people, by the people, and for the people” has been surrendered to administrators and bureaucrats who have very little regard for “We the People,” or the concept of a Constitutional Republic. The proverbial ‘writing is on the wall.”
Yet, yesterday was acknowledged as “President’s Day” and many have serious reservations whether our currently acknowledged POTUS deserves to be acknowledged as POTUS. While tomorrow is George Washington’s birthday, but how many Americans remember him? Or, how many Americans remember only the accusations and crimes the Left and the secular-revisionist historians have leveled against him? Citizens are indeed in a sad state of affairs, but the simple considerations just presented have a lot to do with how we got into such a sad state of affairs.
George Santaya expressed it simply as: “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” Americans have been so condemned, by those who seek to use the ignorance of our past against us.
Today’s edition will offer Washington a chance to defend what he truly believed about genuinely preserving what the founding generation had given their lives to create. The first message that we provide offers a generous excerpt of President Washingtron’s “Farewell Address.” The words are his except for a brief introduction to provide context from History.com
The second article is offering my humble tribute to George Washington for his birthday. It is a rehashed version of a similar article that I wrote many moons ago. It is primarily history, but it focuses on the confusion over the holidays addressed previously. However, I also wrote another article about Washington’s prophetic view of political parties, which puts the excerpts from his “Farewell Address” in context. For readers who are interested that article can be found here:
George Washington's views on political parties in America
Today’s third article (mainly a video) is from Michael James Lewinski. The Citizen Voice has been featuring articles from Lewinski since the beginning of our efforts even before March of 2016, when Dr. Ben Carson withdrew from his bid for the GOP nomination for POTUS. His article, “A Future in the Collective,” deals with a bleak picture due to the types of politicians that do not care about the original vision of the founding generation. It makes the prophetic words of Washington more provocative in this day.
We hope readers understand that the Citizen Sentinels Network agenda is to help educate as many citizens as possible through the Citizen Voice. We also hope to empower those who have been awakened to take action to retain and restore our Republic. The Citizen Voice, as the most recent rendition of the Citizen Sentinels Network newsletter, is proceeding into its seventh year. It seems hard to believe it has been that long, but time normally flies by when ones’ endeavors are challenging and enjoyable. As we begin the year, we still strive to hold true to our dual purpose of education and inspiration for activism.
Reminder: In January, as a way to fill in the void left by forced abandonment of the Thursday edition due to the attack on our Citizen Sentinels Network website, a new newsletter was initiated. The initial edition was sent to many of our Citizen Voice readers, but this new endeavor of an organization that was founded in 2019: The Coalition for a Principled Republic. This new newsletter is more of an educational effort to shine the light on the activities and activism of the CPR groups who are doing what needs to be done to keep the Republic. The focus is essentially activism rooted in principles that were cherished by the founding generation as well as successive generations of Americans.
This CPR newsletter was intended to be sent once a month. However, the next edition will post this Thursday. It will be sent to our Citizen Voice readers automatically. However, if it is not what you appreciate, please let us know and we will remove your email address from the distribution list.
As always, if the perspectives or views of our writers are worthy of others’ attention, please share today’s Citizens Voice with those who may need enlightenment. And, in light of all our aggregates and entries today, it is also our hope that readers would please take to heart what they read through this edition.
Finally, as mentioned in previous editions, the Sunday Citizen Voice edition of LightWing Messages has entered into the Zoom realm. Initial Zoom calls were held in the last weeks of 2022 and met our expectations, so we are going forward with this project in 2023. If readers are interested in this week’s call and would like to receive the Zoom link, please send an email request to this address: d.jamzon@gmail.com
We’ll have a discussion about the message that was shared on Sunday regarding my initial steps in developing a genuine and sustainable faith. If readers may find this of significance, or
if you would like to know more, tuning in may turn out to be good. There are many readers who are already registered on the list to get the weekly Zoom link; you will automatically receive the invitation. Again, if others are interested in receiving the Zoom link to the call, please send an email request to this address: d.jamzon@gmail.com

Extensive excerpts of President George Washington’s Farewell Address
From History.com – “In 1796, as he neared the end of his second term, President George Washington was 64 years old and suffering from ills both physical and political. Plagued by painful dentures and rheumatism, and facing increasing attacks from opponents of his policies, the former Revolutionary War general decided he would not seek a third term in the nation’s highest office.
As he did so, he and his longtime friend and protégé, Alexander Hamilton, drafted a farewell address. In the 7,641-word document, the nation’s first president called for the American people to remain unified, resist the rise of political factions and avoid the influence of foreign powers…”
“...Towards the preservation of your government, and the permanency of your present happy state, it is requisite, not only that you steadily discountenance irregular oppositions to its acknowledged authority, but also that you resist with care the spirit of innovation upon its principles, however specious the pretexts. One method of assault may be to effect, in the forms of the Constitution, alterations which will impair the energy of the system, and thus to undermine what cannot be directly overthrown. In all the changes to which you may be invited, remember that time and habit are at least as necessary to fix the true character of governments as of other human institutions; that experience is the surest standard by which to test the real tendency of the existing constitution of a country; that facility in changes, upon the credit of mere hypothesis and opinion, exposes to perpetual change, from the endless variety of hypothesis and opinion; and remember, especially, that for the efficient management of your common interests, in a country so extensive as ours, a government of as much vigor as is consistent with the perfect security of liberty is indispensable. Liberty itself will find in such a government, with powers properly distributed and adjusted, its surest guardian. It is, indeed, little else than a name, where the government is too feeble to withstand the enterprises of faction, to confine each member of the society within the limits prescribed by the laws, and to maintain all in the secure and tranquil enjoyment of the rights of person and property.
I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State, with particular reference to the founding of them on geographical discriminations. Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful effects of the spirit of party generally.
This spirit, unfortunately, is inseparable from our nature, having its root in the strongest passions of the human mind. It exists under different shapes in all governments, more or less stifled, controlled, or repressed; but, in those of the popular form, it is seen in its greatest rankness, and is truly their worst enemy.
The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge, natural to party dissension, which in different ages and countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders and miseries which result gradually incline the minds of men to seek security and repose in the absolute power of an individual; and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction, more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of public liberty.
Without looking forward to an extremity of this kind (which nevertheless ought not to be entirely out of sight), the common and continual mischiefs of the spirit of party are sufficient to make it the interest and duty of a wise people to discourage and restrain it.
It serves always to distract the public councils and enfeeble the public administration. It agitates the community with ill-founded jealousies and false alarms, kindles the animosity of one part against another, foments occasionally riot and insurrection. It opens the door to foreign influence and corruption, which finds a facilitated access to the government itself through the channels of party passions. Thus the policy and the will of one country are subjected to the policy and will of another.
There is an opinion that parties in free countries are useful checks upon the administration of the government and serve to keep alive the spirit of liberty. This within certain limits is probably true; and in governments of a monarchical cast, patriotism may look with indulgence, if not with favor, upon the spirit of party. But in those of the popular character, in governments purely elective, it is a spirit not to be encouraged. From their natural tendency, it is certain there will always be enough of that spirit for every salutary purpose. And there being constant danger of excess, the effort ought to be by force of public opinion, to mitigate and assuage it. A fire not to be quenched, it demands a uniform vigilance to prevent its bursting into a flame, lest, instead of warming, it should consume.
It is important, likewise, that the habits of thinking in a free country should inspire caution in those entrusted with its administration, to confine themselves within their respective constitutional spheres, avoiding in the exercise of the powers of one department to encroach upon another. The spirit of encroachment tends to consolidate the powers of all the departments in one, and thus to create, whatever the form of government, a real despotism. A just estimate of that love of power, and proneness to abuse it, which predominates in the human heart, is sufficient to satisfy us of the truth of this position. The necessity of reciprocal checks in the exercise of political power, by dividing and distributing it into different depositaries, and constituting each the guardian of the public weal against invasions by the others, has been evinced by experiments ancient and modern; some of them in our country and under our own eyes. To preserve them must be as necessary as to institute them. If, in the opinion of the people, the distribution or modification of the constitutional powers be in any particular wrong, let it be corrected by an amendment in the way which the Constitution designates. But let there be no change by usurpation; for though this, in one instance, may be the instrument of good, it is the customary weapon by which free governments are destroyed. The precedent must always greatly overbalance in permanent evil any partial or transient benefit, which the use can at any time yield.
Of all the dispositions and habits which lead to political prosperity, religion and morality are indispensable supports. In vain would that man claim the tribute of patriotism, who should labor to subvert these great pillars of human happiness, these firmest props of the duties of men and citizens. The mere politician, equally with the pious man, ought to respect and to cherish them. A volume could not trace all their connections with private and public felicity. Let it simply be asked: Where is the security for property, for reputation, for life, if the sense of religious obligation desert the oaths which are the instruments of investigation in courts of justice ? And let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Whatever may be conceded to the influence of refined education on minds of peculiar structure, reason and experience both forbid us to expect that national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle.
It is substantially true that virtue or morality is a necessary spring of popular government. The rule, indeed, extends with more or less force to every species of free government. Who that is a sincere friend to it can look with indifference upon attempts to shake the foundation of the fabric?
Promote then, as an object of primary importance, institutions for the general diffusion of knowledge. In proportion as the structure of a government gives force to public opinion, it is essential that public opinion should be enlightened…
Reflections on George Washington’s Birthday
By Dennis Jamison
February 22, 2023
Although calendars are useful tools, they sometimes create more confusion than clarification over dates designated as holidays. Additionally, holidays are good, but if one does not really know what the celebration is about, can such a special day be truly appreciated?
An excellent example of such confusion is the present-day remembrance or reduction of value of George Washington’s birthday. Yesterday was the third Monday of the month of February, and the third Monday of February has legally been designated by the United States’ Congress as a day to remember the birthday of George Washington. Some of the contemporary calendars will accurately designate it so. However, other calendars depict this third Monday as “President’s Day.” To make it even more confusing, there are yet other calendars that refer to this day as “Presidents’ Day!” Note the apostrophes.
Yet, it shouldn’t be that difficult to sort out the basic recognition of George Washington’s Birthday. So, what’s the big deal? Well, for one thing, English punctuation is important, and it sends messages to those able to decipher the subtle distinctions. If U.S. citizens are celebrating “Presidents’ Day,” they are in fact celebrating or honoring all the other presidents of the United States along with good old George Washington. It is because with the apostrophe after the “s” at the end of the word presidents, it designates plurality as well as a possessive reality. This means to the careful reader that the holiday is a celebration of all forty-plus former presidents as well as the current occupant of the White House.
With an apostrophe at the end of the word presidents(‘), the word implies that at least more than one president is being honored; and in all likelihood, it is perhaps all of the presidents who are fully entitled to be honored on this day. However, most Americans who are even paying attention, seem to accept that it is primarily a federal holiday to honor the two most famous presidents born in the month of February: Abraham Lincoln and George Washington. It would seem to be a bit of a stretch to include the likes of Millard Fillmore, Chester A. Arthur, or Grover Cleveland in such a holiday.
On the other hand, regarding the punctuation, if the illusive apostrophe is placed between before the final “s” in presidents (like so: President’s) it designates individual ownership that would mean the day is for one and only one of the U.S. presidents. This suggests that the day is meant to honor the Father of the Country. This recognition may bring one back full circle to the original intent of the holiday, which was to maintain the holiday that honored the very first president.
So, the question is simply this: Why not call the holiday George Washington’s Birthday? Yes, indeed, it may be too simple to call it what it is. Yet, it is clear in some circles. Such circles may be the ones that care about honesty, which is what Washington cared about as well.
George Washington’s Birthday was celebrated in a public way even while he was president. Years later, the holiday became an official federal holiday in 1885. On February 21st of that year, President Chester Arthur, in one of the last public ceremonies in which he participated before leaving office, dedicated the Washington Monument. Later in 1885, he signed a Congressional bill which expanded the earlier Congressional Act of 1879 creating a federal holiday for Washington’s Birthday for the government workers in the District of Columbia. The 1885 legislation essentially transformed Washington’s birthday into a legitimate federal holiday, giving holiday benefits to all federal employees.
This holiday was the first federal holiday to honor an American citizen. It was originally celebrated on what was considered Washington’s actual birthday of February 22nd. However, George Washington was not really born on that day.
When Washington was born on Pope Creek’s Farm in Westmoreland County, Virginia, it was February 11, 1731! This can be blamed on another inaccurate calendar, the Julian Calendar, which was still used by the British Empire until 1752. Although the Gregorian Calendar was utilized by most of the Catholic world from the date of the papal bull of Pope Gregory XIII which was decreed on February 24, 1582, the British didn’t weren’t part of the Roman Catholic realm. Through the Calendar Act of 1750, the British finally adopted the Gregorian calendar, but it became confusing for all of the English subjects in the realm born after that year.
In 1752, good old George Washington’s birthday under the British Empire’s newly adopted Gregorian Calendar, became February 22, 1732. Not to be outdone, the U.S. Congress decided to add to the calendar confusion, and on January 1, 1971, the Uniform Monday Holiday Act took effect and transformed several traditional holidays celebrated throughout the year to Monday dates, This included the remembrance of Washington’s Birthday. So, contrary to popular perception, this legislation did not establish a “Presidents Day” to combine Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthday parties.
The Uniform Monday Holiday Act was debated by Congress and signed into law on June 28, 1968, and was simply designed to increase the quantity of three-day weekends for all federal employees. Although there had been an early draft of the Congressional calendar shell game that would have made Washington’s Birthday officially into “Presidents’ Day” (to honor both presidents – Lincoln and Washington), it did not make it through the preliminary committee and the original name was maintained as “Washington’s Birthday.”
The underlying reason for the ‘name confusion’ is that the federal government began to tinker with it and messed up a perfectly good birthday celebration for George Washington. To compound the problem, the nation’s economy in the 1970’s began to tank. Private retailers which had learned by that time that Congress originally intended to change the name of
Washington’s Birthday to Presidents/s’/’s Day, pivoted off of the more generic name to primarily stimulate business. They had done their marketing homework, and for some odd reason, the retailers discovered that generic “Presidents” sold more products than the one who used to be “first in the hearts of his countrymen,” or so it has been rationalized.
A marketing endeavor and a local department store promotion generated into a national phenomenon – in today’s terminology – “it went viral!” At this time, the designation of Mr. Washington’s birthday has unofficially been transformed into “Presidents/s’/’s Day,” with many Americans believing that the name of the legal federal holiday is essentially official. But this is not true. It is true that a number of state governments (at least a dozen) have passed legislation to rename the holiday observance as “Presidents’ Day or “Washington and Lincoln Day,” or other assorted variations along the same theme.
In reality, it ultimately depends upon where one lives (state governments truly determine the holiday where applicable) whether they actually celebrate “Presidents Day,” “Presidents’ Day,” or “President’s Day!” Some states officially celebrate both birthdays! Actually, neither Lincoln’s birthday (February 12th), nor Washington’s birthday will ever fall upon the third Monday of the month of February. That date can only occur between the 15th to the 21st of that month.
Interestingly, these dates fall between the birthdays of Lincoln and Washington but never on the exact dates. This guarantees that “Washington’s Birthday” as a federal holiday will always be a misnomer and allows for no true or official recognition of Mr. Lincoln’s birthday.
No matter, someone long ago said that “it’s the thought that counts.” While this all may be important to some Americans, it is not important to many and what does that really reveal about the importance of the nation’s history to the general public? Sadly, if a nation forgets its great leaders and notable men or women of the past, that nation will lose its roots and foundation. America was founded on purpose by men and women with a vision of something better than what the world had experienced to the time of the nation’s birth. Whether one celebrates Presidents Day or Washington’s Birthday or a combination of such days, it is important to remember where the vision originated or when it was substantiated by action.
Happy Birthday to the man who originally made America great!
A Future in the Collective
By Michael James Lewinski – 1/30/23
As is always the case, our digital future is going to be imposed upon us, the “little people,” by the Progressives who, they claim, know better than us. This is a bait and switch scheme. The bait is – they advertise it as convenience and privacy. The switch is – a constant monitoring of individuals, the opportunity to deny our ability to pay for things and the compulsion to live in a fifteen-minute city where there is no need for cars and you can either walk or bicycle for everything you need and want.
This is the new, new world order, of the Great Reset where you will own nothing and be quite content with that. These Progressives have bugs on the menu for us because they cannot allow cows and other animals sending quiet methane into the atmosphere. Of course, they will, as the hypocrites they are, continue consuming high grade Japanese beef.
Their governing philosophy places less emphasis on individual rights and stresses collective responsibilities and duties. Progressive reformers hold a common belief in civic duty and self-sacrifice. Their understanding of the public interest is quite different from what we expect the public interest to be. Progressives expect us to worship, not God, but the State.
Progressives know if they can monitor our activities, they can control our behavior. Where in America and much of the first and second world are there not cameras and recording devices recording everything? You have a smartphone, TV or refrigerator, and everything you say or do is recorded. Super AI will collate the information it receives from everywhere and paint a picture of you and what you do. You will never have a private moment.
For Hoosiers -
You and I can put an end to this subversion of our Constitution by throwing the Progressive devils out of office. In Indiana, I urge you to work for Rep. Jim Banks providing money and door knocking for his Senate candidacy and for Sen. Mike Braun, who is running for governor. I will be doing both for these two candidates.
Michael J. Lewinski holds a masters degree in special education. As a competent teacher, he spent two decades of his life in the special education field, teaching special education classes at the junior and senior high school levels in Ohio and Indiana until his retirement in 2010. "If ever a time should come, when vain and aspiring men shall possess the highest seats in Government, our country will stand in need of its experienced patriots to prevent its ruin." ~ Samuel Adams, 1776
Ownership of our Republic is now the fight of our time! Keeping our Republic depends upon the genuine sense of ownership of the Land of the Free. Either this is our country, or it will belong to those who are actively seeking to take it from us. It is the same mentality that inspired someone long ago to express the sentiment that “All it takes for evil to triumph is that good people do nothing.” Efforts to take responsibility for keeping this nation a free Republic are organically occurring right now all across the nation.
