The Good Shepherd and His Sheep
Therefore Jesus said again, “Very truly I tell you, I am the gate for the sheep. All who have come before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep have not listened to them. I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. The hired hand is not the shepherd and does not own the sheep. So when he sees the wolf coming, he abandons the sheep and runs away. Then the wolf attacks the flock and scatters it. The man runs away because he is a hired hand and cares nothing for the sheep.
“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep. I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.”
The Jews who heard these words were again divided. Many of them said, “He is demon-possessed and raving mad. Why listen to him?”
But others said, “These are not the sayings of a man possessed by a demon. Can a demon open the eyes of the blind?” John 10:7- 21 (NIV)
FOUNDER’S MESSAGE:
This past week, people in the world celebrated the holiday of Halloween, while people in Mexico or Central and South America celebrated a related holiday known as el Día de los Muertos, or in English, The Day of the Dead. Both of these holidays, Halloween of Celtic origins, and Day of the Dead focus upon those who have passed away and attempt to incorporate those who died into current celebrations of the living. That is the common tie between them, and there are such common ties with other cultures dealing with such a theme: death, or those who have died. However, there is an over abundance of focus upon the frightening aspects of death as well as dancing with the horror of death and assorted monsters that bring such death and destruction. One could claim that there is even a fascination with the horror of frightening aspects of death.
Facing death or the circumstances of death is much different than pretend. Having an experience with death is a very sobering reality. For those who have experienced the death of a loved one, it is an experience for many that is burned into one’s psyche. The way people tend to flirt with death or play with death seems to have increased in recent times. People do not seem to be as much afraid of death as they had just a few decades ago. This may be true in the United States because of more people experiencing the death of loved ones or of those they personally knew. One can understand this in light of the mass shootings and domestic terrorism, the planned-demic of COVID, and the many deaths (often misreported) of those who have died from the deadly COVID vaccines.
Additionally, in the United States since the passing of Roe v. Wade, there has been a great deal of controversy over the aborting of developing babies in a mother’s womb. This casual acceptance of taking the life of unborn children seems to have numbed the general population to the seriousness of pre-planning the death of life – life of any kind. It is not far-fetched to imagine that if the animal rights activists learned of the premeditated planning of a rabbit, serious protest demonstrations would be launched, even television personalities would condemn such murderous actions. However, millions of human children are killed every year by their own mother’s consent. The culture that we happen to live in places greater value on death than on life if we look candidly at all the extreme examples of how we tend to be caught up in promoting death as opposed to promoting life. Politicians, not true leaders do not easily deal with the abortion controversy – even after the transfer of the decisions on abortion rights to the state governments.
The recent invasion of Israel by the terrorists of Hamas is another blatant example of numbness to death of the people in this nation. Of course, there is a certain segment of the population that only see this as a political incident, or that follow what the mainstream media tell the people to think of it. Various Citizen Sentinels Network newsletters have featured commentary on the realities of this current tragedy, yet the mainstream media is a powerful brainwashing system – akin to George Orwell’s conception of the propaganda spewed out from Big Brother in his classic, 1984. Yet, we can remember that Hillary Clinton had once weighed in on the death of Americans with the pithy question: “What difference does it make?” Many Americans may be echoing such sentiments in their own thoughts while in the contemporary American valley of the shadow of death.
The LightWing Messages this Sunday, in the first article, takes a deeper dive into the centuries old battle between life and death. It is my humble opinion that humanity was initially lied to about the true meanings of life and death, and since the Fall of Man, humanity had just been confused about the notions of life and death. The words and concepts around the words were twisted in the Garden and have been contorted or distorted since then.
The second message today is from Dr. Robert Owens and is an excerpt from his book as indicated. The title of his offering is “Revelation Not Contemplation Shows Us the Way.” It is not about only the Book of Revelation, but the revelation of God throughout the Bible. The value of Life to God is revealed there, for those who have the eyes to see it.
For those readers who tune in this Wednesday evening, we will focus on either of the messages and any questions they may stir up. Readers can partake in this coming Zoom call Wednesday and participate (or just listen) in our discussion, by please reaching out.
Our Zoom calls are on each Wednesday at 5pm PST (6pm MST; 7pm CST; and 8pm EST). Readers who are interested in receiving the Zoom link to the call are asked to please send an email request to this address: d.jamzon@gmail.com
Our Zoom call this past Wednesday with a focus on the various reactions to the invasion of Israel focused a lot on “whose side are you on?” This is based upon the question Joshua asked the angel of the Lord at the Jordan River before the Hebrew people crossed into the “Promised Land.” We even crossed from the Old Testament into the New Testament territory, and beyond. We hope readers can tune in this coming Wednesday as the times are increasingly turbulent as the Middle East conflict threatens to spark World War III. Please pray that it does not. We need to keep our heads on straight and our hearts in the right place in the midst of such tribulation.

These words are being freely offered to you – intended to shine light unto our paths, as written: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18 - KJV
May God bless our readers and all of their loved ones. May God bless All His Children!
May we humble ourselves, seek His face, repent and turn from wickedness - like apathy or indifference, or utter ignorance of the difference between right and wrong. May we be better children of our Heavenly Father, by resisting deceptions and the lies from Satan that are intended to multiply evil in our hearts or in our midst. May we seek first His Kingdom and manifest His righteousness in such perilous times.
The Value of Life in a Culture of Death
By Dennis Jamison
11/2/23
From the beginning of the human race, way back in the Garden of Eden, God offered human beings the gift of Free Will - the gift of choice, but it came in the form of a command: “but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…” and coupled with the strong admonition was a catastrophic consequence: “for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”
(Genesis 2:17) I submit that this incident, and subsequent choice to not do what God asked, is the description of the seminal event that led to the culture of death human beings live in now.
Yet, there was one provision that has provided an oasis of life with the culture of death. God still has compassion for His children. The essential saving grace still manifests from the origin of Life and the New Testament proves: “For God so loved the world, (still after all the years) that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16) Thus He offered humanity another choice in the advent of Jesus again. However, the outcome carried the same catastrophic consequence: “Jesus replied,
‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.’” (John 14:23-24)
This statement has much to do with understanding the admonition and doing something about it and not just discussing it intellectually or predicting or prophesying about the truth of it. It has so much to do with whether people follow Jesus and do what he asked of them. In all transparency on another occasion, Jesus gets serious with his disciples:
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them
into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete. (Luke 6:46-49)
As his words are considered, it is not an understatement that these are critical consequences if one cannot obey the words of Life from Christ. God’s Providence returned to the point of choice once again – the vine that was provided for people to grasp in order to secure life. Readers can remember that the two trees in the midst of the Garden of Eden were the tree of the knowledge of good and evil and the tree of life. Jesus came as the tree of life – the second Adam. So as Paul explains: “just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all people, because all sinned…” (Romans 5:12)
Yet, it is still the same situation. Humanity needs to seek and secure life by following God’s word and in the advent of His son, to love His son and to demonstrate such love by doing what Jesus is asking of us. And the mantra of many Christians is that Paul said we are saved by faith! That may be true, but an individual who has been pulled from near death by drowning in a lake, can be considered saved. However, it is what he does with his salvation that matters to Jesus by his words – not by any other teachers or preachers of the Word. In my humble opinion, many can use the “by faith alone” perspective, for whatever purpose, but one who hears the words of Christ “and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation...” These words are not my own; they belong to the Lord who shared them with me.
So, it is no wonder that those who divorce themselves from the words of Christ, are following in the same practice as those who divorced themselves (even justifying their disobedience) from the word of God’s admonition throughout His Providence from the time of the incident in the Garden until such a time as this. In my humble opinion, those who pick and choose what truth they choose to guide their lives are like people who hope that their lack of obedience to God’s word can be “swept under the rug,” and no one will notice. To them, I would ask this simple question: Were Adam and Eve able to hide from their Heavenly Father?
In tragic consequence, Adam and Eve brought upon humanity the culture of death we live in today. Those who call themselves Christians, who do not practice what Jesus admonished all of us to do, may want to refer to themselves as something more honest. God cannot be fooled by how much a person wants to self-identify as a Christian, no matter how much virtue signaling one may do. Adam and Eve could not hide from Him and did not fool Him. And tragically, from these two people, the human race came into existence and a culture of death metastasized over the face of the earth. And Jesus who came to reverse this could only inspire people by his life to change theirs in a substantial way by practicing what he asked of us.
Another question: If all Christians in the world were practicing what Jesus asked of his followers, how come the culture of death is so pervasive upon the planet? I believe most honest people do know the answer to that question. Most dishonest people would prefer to pass on answering, or they would seek to conjure up a feeble excuse. But, here is the answer: It is hard to live up to the admonitions of God or of His son in such a toxic environment – especially in this time. But, the solution to the culture of death is to choose life and promote and protect life. All life. It has always been what God had intended.
After the Fall of Man, God still had a plan to bring His children back to the original blueprint that He expressed in the Garden of Eden: for His children to choose Life. He initiated His Providence to bring His children back home. After helping the Hebrew people to obtain their freedom from the tyranny of Egypt, God fulfilled His promise to His son Abraham. After he re-established a covenant with Moses, He again admonished the Hebrew people to choose life:
“See, I set before you today life and prosperity, death and destruction. For I command you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep His commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess.
But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. You will not live long in the land you are crossing the Jordan to enter and possess.
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live and that you may love the Lord your God, listen to His voice, and hold fast to Him. For the Lord is your life, and He will give you many years in the land he swore to give to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.” Deuteronomy 30:15-20
This makes it quite clear to the Hebrew people that each person is responsible for committing to those actions which promote life – especially holding to His commands and being obedient to the decrees and laws. It seems quite clear that obedience to the Law is the foundation for the Kingdom of God. It seems quite clear that the Kingdom of God was the original blueprint. And what kind of Kingdom would God desire? Again…
‘Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them. Anyone who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.’”
So, why would anyone wonder why humanity is immersed in a culture of death? It is because we do not value life as much as a human race. I do not claim we do not value life as individuals, or with in a certain church, or in Christian communities in general. We, in our human civilization, do not value life. If we did value life as a civilization, it would mean that the value life would be of greater value than our permission for the promotion of death and destruction to persist within all aspects of our various societal domains; we would promote and protect life as if it were a matter of life and death – because it is. It always has been.
Revelation Not Contemplation Shows Us the Way
By Dr. Robert Owens
web posted September 4, 2023 [This is an excerpt from the book Love by Dr. Owens]
Sometimes we try to define God’s words and actions too perfectly. In our arrogance we think we can adequately describe exactly what God always means in all situations. This easily can lead us into thinking our doctrines are God’s doctrines. We act as if God is sitting on the throne studying our catechisms and judging by our standards.
When we do this, we’re trying to put God in a box. The biggest problem with this is that when God decides to draw outside the lines, we run the risk of misidentifying a move of God as a heresy that violates one of our rules.
It’s good to devote our efforts to grasping the meanings of God’s Word; however, we must always be aware that it’s possible to veer from seeking understanding into believing we’ve cornered the market on that valuable commodity. We just cannot reduce the immensity of God into formulas.
In any equation we devise to represent God, His Word, or His actions the “X” of God is always undefined. Eternity, infinity, and omnipresence are all terms we can define but we can never fully comprehend. The reality of God, the only self-existent One is as far removed from our understanding as the operation of a supercomputer is from an amoeba. The prophet Isaiah told us, “‘For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways,’ says the Lord. ‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.’”
We must acknowledge that we can’t think our way to or through God’s truth. Our human minds are fundamentally incapable of encompassing such immensities. The Word puts it like this, “But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”
Many unbelievers and skeptics try to cast aspersions on the Word of God by pointing out what they perceive as contradictions in the text. When we’re reading or meditating in the Word if we encounter anything we feel is a contradiction, we don’t let it weaken our faith instead we stand on faith. Instead of wavering do as one of the Biblical authors suggests, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
And don’t despair, don’t think I just can’t understand this. Don’t think God has given us a puzzle instead of a revelation. Just because we can never fully understand all of it doesn’t mean we can’t understand any of it. Just because we can’t use God’s Word to develop a spiritual unifying field theory for every person everywhere every time it doesn’t mean we can’t understand enough with God’s help to have a reliable guide for life. The man God used to write the largest portion of the New Testament tells us, “Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.”
Don’t fall for the siren song of glorified humanity. Don’t accept the old as sin New Age traps of believing we can come to an understanding of God by chanting a mantra or staring at our navel. We can’t think, imagine, or guess our way into the secrets of eternity. God has revealed all we need to know to take His hand as He reaches out to us. He promises if we seek Him, we’ll find Him. His revelation is in His Word. If we’ll dive into His Word, we’ll find not only the peace we seek, the joy we desire, but also the life we need to stand before Him with no sense of guilt or shame.
Don’t delay for we’re here today gone today. Few have the privilege of knowing in the morning that we won’t see the evening. We don’t know when eternity might reach up and snatch us out of this bubble of time. The Lord comes as a thief in the night and we always need to be ready for eternity. We may have hours to kill but we don’t have a moment to spare. Do it today. Don’t tell yourself you will do it tomorrow for tomorrow may never come.
The choice is ours. Let’s choose life.
