Your Word Is a Lamp to My Feet
YODH
74 Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments. Those who fear you shall see me and rejoice, because I have hoped in your word.
75 I know, O LORD, that your rules are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me.
76 Let your steadfast love comfort me according to your promise to your servant.
77 Let your rmercy come to me, that I may live; for your law is my delight.
78 Let the insolent be put to shame, because they have wronged me with falsehood; as for me, I will meditate on your precepts. 79 Let those who fear you turn to me, that they may know your testimonies. 80 May my heart be blameless in your statutes, that I may not be put to shame!
KAPH
81 My soul longs for your salvation; I hope in your word.
82 My eyes long for your promise; I ask, “When will you comfort me?”
83 For I have become like a wineskin in the smoke, yet I have not forgotten your statutes.
84 How long must your servant endure? When will you judge those who persecute me?
85 The insolent have dug pitfalls for me; they do not live according to your law.
86 All your commandments are sure; they persecute me with falsehood; help me!
87 They have almost made an end of me on earth, but I have not forsaken your precepts.
88 In your steadfast love give me life, that I may keep the testimonies of your mouth.
LAMEDH
89 Forever, O LORD, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness endures to all generations; you have established the earth, and it stands fast. 91 By your appointment they stand this day, for all things are your servants. 92 If your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget your precepts, for by them you have given me life.
94 I am yours; save me, for I have sought your precepts. 95 The wicked lie in wait to destroy me, but I consider your testimonies. 96 I have seen a limit to all perfection, but your commandment is exceedingly broad.
MEM
97 Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. 98 Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. 99 I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. 100 I understand more than bthe aged, for I keep your precepts.
101 I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. 102 I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me. 103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.
NUN
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. 106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
to keep your irighteous rules. 107 I am severely afflicted; give me life, O LORD, according to your word! 108 Accept my freewill offerings of praise, O LORD, and teach me your rules. 109 I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law. 110 The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts. 111 Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart. 112 I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end.
SAMEKH
113 I hate the double-minded, but I love your law. 114 You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word. 115 Depart from me, you evildoers, that I may keep the commandments of my God. 116 Uphold me according to your promise, that I may live, and let me not be put to shame in my hope! 117 Hold me up, that I may be safe and have regard for your statutes continually!
118 You spurn all who go astray from your statutes, for their cunning is in vain.
119 All the wicked of the earth you discard like dross, therefore jI love your testimonies.
120 My flesh trembles for fear of you, and I am afraid of your judgments.
AYIN
121 I have done what is just and right; do not leave me to my oppressors. 122 Give your servant a pledge of good; let not the insolent oppress me. 123 My eyes long for your salvation and for the fulfillment of your righteous promise. 124 Deal with your servant according to your steadfast love,
and teach me your statutes. 125 I am your servant; give me understanding, that I may know your testimonies! 126 It is time for the LORD to act, for your law has been broken. 127 Therefore I love your commandments above gold, above fine gold. 128 Therefore I consider all your precepts to be right; I hate every false way.
PE
129 Your testimonies are wonderful; therefore my soul keeps them.
130 The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.
131 I open my mouth and pant, because I long for your commandments.
132 Turn to me and be gracious to me, as is your way with those who love your name.
133 Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me.
134 Redeem me from man’s oppression, that I may keep your precepts.
135 Make your face shine upon your servant, and teach me your statutes.
136 My eyes shed streams of tears, because people do not keep your law.
Psalms 119:74-136 (ESV Study Bible)
Our main message last week was lifted from the Strike Force of Prayer site and the author focused upon Jonah’s harrowing experience. The emphasis was not on being swallowed up, but mostly on not trying to run away from God’s guidance, as well as self-directing the individual effort to “cultivate courageous righteousness.” In other words to muster the courage to do what our Heavenly Father is asking of us or calling us to do. The message is relevant for our time as the Citizen Sentinel pointed out that the message was intended to “remind us that God wants to use us, even us, to intercede for others.”
Today’s main message I wrote after having a recent experience that helped me understand Jonah much more fully – not just intellectually, but a full immersion in a real threat of losing my life based upon my own stubbornness and, well… stupidity. So, the Jonah experience became more relevant to me than it ever had been before. However, I realized my experience was more a metaphor for the experience America is now going through. My experience was trusting a Google Maps directive to go down a road I had never been on before, in darkness, and after losing cell wireless connection, without any linkage to “clear” GPS guidance. The road should be removed from Google Maps, as it is mainly for people driving off road vehicles who want an experience of “roughing it” in the desert.
Yet, Heavenly Father was with me in my personal “valley of the shadow of death.” The experience caused me to relate driving down a “road to oblivion” to where America is headed in such a time as this. At some stage, people of faith have a tendency to deny the severity of the clear and present danger, and often they simply persevere in faith and sheer stubbornness of conviction. However, if there is little light upon their paths, they miss the obvious signs of impending danger, and proceed as if they will be able to handle it. After all, is that not what faith is about – trusting in that which is not visible? “Now faith is the reality of what is hoped for, the proof of what is not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)
People of faith are taught to have faith and persevere even in difficult times and trust in God. But,
part of our course of faith is to also do as Jonah did when he realized the error of his ways and he
understood he was responsible for doing what God was calling him to do. His actions of attempting
to avoid what God was calling him to do, caused him to experience great pain and suffering and he
almost died. However, the beauty of the story is that he repented and called out for God to save him and went on to finally take up the cross that God had requested for him to carry. And so I lived past my own trial as well, and this is why I wrote the message for today.
The second message is not a secondary message, but a reminder of a message that the Lord gave to those he loved and a message that he offered to them not just for the sake of contemplation. It is offered today as a reminder of the Parable of the Vineyard, and I hope Americans can understand they need to repent for being poor stewards of what God has given us through those who were so willing to give their lives so the future generations could enjoy the fruits of freedom. It is a message to pray about and to seek His guidance for this time of tribulation.

These words are being freely offered to you – intended to shine light unto our paths, as written: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18 - KJV
May God bless all of our readers and all of their loved ones. May God bless America!
May we, who are called by His name, humble ourselves (intentionally place ourselves daily in His presence with genuine humility) and repent of our transgressions against (even the least among us) and receive with deepest gratitude His Mercy and His loving Grace. And in return, may we be receivers of His guidance, and transform our lives, so as to truly pursue primarily His righteousness and the building of His Kingdom.
Realization, Repentance, and A True U-Turn
Most people raised in the Judeo-Christian heritage are aware of the story of Jonah who tried to run away from the mission God gave him to preach His message of repentance to the inhabitants of the city of Nineveh: “Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai, saying, ‘Get up! Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before Me.’ Jonah 1:1-2
In considering the mission of Jonah and in comparing his course with the people of faith today, it may be important to look back at his time in order to find clarity in our time. Widespread wickedness exists in America today, and it may be much worse than in Nineveh in Jonah’s day. It is likely even much more worse than the days of Sodom and Gomorrah. People of faith may or may not be aware of such a tragic reality in this country as they may be tethered to their comfort zones, or it’s possible they may be more immersed in their individual material realms than they realize.
On the other hand, people of faith may be in some stage of denial. And one may truly wonder if there are any Johahs of today to shake us out of the realm of comfort and pleasantries afforded them in a materialistic society. Or, one may wonder why there are no prophets speaking out against the immorality rampant in America today. Certainly, it is quite obvious that leaders and ministers of many denominations of the Christian faith, as well as other religious leaders, are not warning people about the rapid decline of our nation. People value little but material things and have no genuine or strong standard of what is good and what is evil.
The reverse of such pondering is simply: Why is it up to a minister or a prophet to warn the people against immorality? Do people of faith not have discernment within themselves to grasp how corrupt and immoral the nation has become? Yes, they do. Each of God’s children was born attached to his or her mother with an umbilical cord for the sake of living within the womb. In my humble opinion, each of God’s children are also born with a spiritual umbilical cord when they emerge from their mother’s womb: a spiritual linkage to our Heavenly Father, despite the tainting from Original Sin.
That spiritual umbilical cord is what connects our physical body to our spirit and to our Heavenly Father. Within the spirit is one’s conscience, which can be nurtured or undernourished depending upon one’s own will and the path one chooses to tread while on the planet. Our conscience is the linkage we can access or leave unattended based upon our decisions. The conscience can help each of God’s children discern the difference between right and wrong, good and evil. However, many people, regardless of their position in the secular or religious realms of this world do not develop or strengthen their conscience.
Yet, there are people, regardless of their position in the religious or secular realms of this world that do discern and know the difference between good and evil. The health and strength of their individual conscience is dependent upon many factors and what they feed their spirit, just as our physical bodies become healthy or strong by what nutrients and nourishment we receive. As Jesus said it is “...not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.” Matthew 15:11 What we eat or drink may increase our strength or make us weak, but it is our words that can defile us. Truly, our choice of words reveal much of who we are as people and often reflects how healthy our conscience happens to be, or how sincerely aligned with Heavenly Father we may happen to be.
The so-called “leaders” have risen within the ranks of political party structures often because they may have had to make compromises of what they truly believe in, if they even have a strong belief system. This is one factor that seriously differentiates the “leaders” of society and the government of today with the men who founded the nation. And, it is important to mention that many of those brave and brilliant men of the founding generation were likely supported by brave, loving, and supportive wives. That generation of who we now refer to as the founding generation knew the contortions of their citizenship and the corruption that existed within the monarchical system they were part of, but they awakened and started to do some serious questioning and active resisting of the tyrannical measures being imposed upon them in their time.
Today, one must question why there is such emphasis upon allowing corruption and the immorality that is obvious and rampant in America, as opposed to more people questioning such authority that diminishes or limits our God-given freedoms and guaranteed civil rights. Today, citizens absolutely must question why there are not more religious leaders who are guiding their flocks to seek God’s face (or His mind and heart) amidst such obvious evil. As I have studied this and prayed at length on the reasons, I believe there are many and they may be as many and varied as there are all of God’s children. However, I have noticed a few trends, and one trend is the immersion in the comfort of a society that has risen up from those early days of despair and suffering through the American War for Independence.
Americans in general have a tendency to be self-absorbed, self-centered, and just plain selfish. Yet, the reverse iot true as well. Those who have absorbed the Judeo-Christian heritage, and others of genuine faith, are self-sacrificing, selfless, and willing to live for the sake of others and not simply themselves. The prior American character type have a tendency to live their lives focused upon an “I-me-my” mentality and possibly other people that happen to be around us work into this picture. It translates, however, into a distant relationship with God, where He is out on Pluto somewhere and only called upon when such people may have some need. That would indeed vary for each person, for one man’s tragedy may be another man’s advantage.
So, if we as a people filter everything through the “I-me-my” perspective, it reveals where God and the rest of humanity “fit” into their lives with respect to the two Great Commandments Jesus pointed out. The basic question for those claiming to be Christians is to ask whether such folks are seeking His Righteousness first, or His KIngdom first. Are citizens of this great Republic even appreciative of our ancestors who were willing to give their lives for us who are here now to enjoy the freedoms they believed in enough to die for? We all need to honestly look into the mirrors of our souls to see who we have become as individuals. Are we truly people God would even want to visit? Christians can answer to themselves whether they would want Jesus to return and to visit with you and talk about how much you have been doing to advance the KIngdom he referred to.
For American society – would we want God to visit and ask each of us to show Him the parts of His Kingdom we have been building or working on? Honestly, do we even understand what Jesus meant when he spoke of the Kingdom? Of course there are references to it, but not a complete picture, unless it is one that someone has constructed in their mind. The “bottom-line” question that must ask is whether His Kingdom is the one we have created in our own understanding, or is it a Kingdom aligned with God’s original blueprint? If in fact, it may be aligned with Heavenly Father’s original blueprint, how much progress can we be proud of in our own efforts to advance or enhance that KIngdom?
These are simple questions, and certainly, I am not one who has the stature to judge anyone, but it is God who is looking upon us – very intensely in this great and terrible day of the Lord. So, for me and those I am able to offer my perspective with, it seems to be that we are within the “Last Days” as a transition period (and there have been multiple last days over the course of Christian history), in such a time as this. So, this is not a time we can treat as normal. We cannot simply conduct our business as usual. We cannot keep God at arm’s length and only call upon Him like we would call a dog. Heavenly Father shared with me in 2019, when I helped create the Coalition for a Principled Republic that we as His children need to re-establish covenant with Him and re-establish proper and respectful communications with Him and genuine and respectful communications with one another.
Could ministers and leaders of faith be proud of the nation as it exists with all of the corruption, depravity, and sexual perversion rampant across the land? If Jesus were to return in such a time as thi, how could anyone say we were good stewards of the Vineyard? Is not America in a similar state of wickedness similar to, or worse than, Nineveh in the time of Jonah? Are contemporary American Christians so self-centered that they are expecting someone else to clean up the mess that we have allowed to grow right under our noses like the outgrowth of life-choking weeds in the garden? It is now indeed the time in which the weeds need to be separated from the life-giving plants of the garden that God has given His children. It is now the time in which those of us who realize we are on a road to oblivion need to make a U-Turn in our life course.
If we who are called Christians are not in alignment with God and His Will (as Jesus revealed), and we are simply making all kinds of excuses for not seeking His Kingdom and His Righteousness, it is a serious indication we need to account for in our prayers. Each person of faith, no matter what that faith may be, must examine oneself in the mirror of one’s soul in such a time as this. As the Citizen Sentinel wrote last week: “Each of us can readily recall times when we took the easy way out by avoiding an opportunity that God has placed before us, to share our faith or perhaps to show a fellow Chrisian their sin. We are all in the same boat. A sinking boat.”
Each of us who proclaim faith need to self-examine and do the same soul-searching Jonah had to do, and then do the thing we sense, or know, God is calling us to do right now. And, there is one more thing – we need to unite and work together to bring our nation together and reverse direction as a society that is currently running in the opposite direction from God, running counter to His Will, His Righteousness and His KIngdom. We are all Jonahs in one way or another, if we honestly care about our country, care about our brothers and sisters, our families, and God’s Will for America and for the entire world. It is time to weed the garden and to reclaim the Vineyard for God.
The Parable of the Vineyard Owner
“Listen to another parable: There was a landowner, who planted a vineyard, put a fence around it, dug a winepress in it, and built a watchtower. He leased it to tenant farmers and went away. When the time came to harvest fruit, he sent his servants to the farmers to collect his fruit. The farmers took his servants, beat one, killed another, and stoned a third. Again, he sent other servants, more than the first group, and they did the same to them. Finally, he sent his son to them. ‘They will respect my son,’ he said.
“But when the tenant farmers saw the son, they said to each other, ‘This is the heir.
Come, let’s kill him and take his inheritance.’ So they seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those farmers?”
“He will completely destroy those terrible men,” they told him, “and lease his vineyard to other farmers who will give him his fruit at the harvest.”
Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:
‘The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
This is what the Lord has done
and it is wonderful in our eyes?’
Therefore I tell you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruit. Whoever falls on this stone will be broken to pieces; but on whomever it falls, it will shatter him.”
When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew he was speaking about them. Although they were looking for a way to arrest him, they feared the crowds, because the people regarded him as a prophet. Matthew 21:33-46
