CSN Sunday - LightWing Messages for 11/14/2021
Jesus Is Tested in the Wilderness
Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the
wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’”
The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, “I will give you all their authority and splendor; it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. If you worship me, it will all be yours.”
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’”
The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down from here. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”
Jesus answered, “It is said: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’”
When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. Luke 2:1-13 (NIV)
Last Thursday was “Veteran’s Day,” and for those American citizens who cared, they honored
America’s veterans. We used last Sunday’s LightWing edition to honor them, and as well we did so in Thursday's edition on Veteran’s Day. The messages we offer today are linked to such a day of remembrance since those veterans had helped in the fight for Freedom and against the evil that would enslave and deprive people of Freedom. The U.S. military in many instances was all that existed to keep such dark forces in check. As I have mentioned numerous times, through
Several periods of American history, our military had been called to overcome evil. I mentioned again our men and women in uniform, the vigil keepers, had offered themselves in the breach between liberty and tyranny. Ultimately, they had been called upon to offer the greatest of all sacrifices for the sake of the higher ideals of human freedom.
Today, Apostle Tim Taylor provides a message on overcoming evil: “How to Be Like Jesus & Destroy the Works of the Devil!” Most of his message is contained in a video initially offered on his Kingdom League website. Apostle Taylor refers to the loss of the moral standards within the contemporary church. Today there is the advent of the “social gospel” - also “prosperity gospels” - and a loss of a linkage to the seminal message of Christ. And, Taylor mentions the words of Charles G. Finney in his video message, which will cause perceptive individuals to find that Finney’s words can also apply to such times as these. The words Finney shared in his time can be shared across America today, which again is in a time of tense divisiveness, and void of true moral leadership for the most part.
Additionally, it bears noting that our Citizen Sentinels Network has also featured in previous editions this legendary evangelist and a leader of the Second Great Awakening. At the time we had initiated our Coalition for a Principled Republic in Marysville, Ohio, in 2019, I encountered the presence of Charles Finney in what was likely his spirit hanging around Ohio as he was once a professor, and then eventually, the president of Oberlin College, which is in the northeast of Ohio, close to Cleveland. Finney, Oberlin’s faculty, and students were active in the abolitionist movement and served as a station along the Underground Railroad.
Of Finney’s sermons we offered in the newsletter previously, one of them was entitled “Self Deceivers” and another was entitled “Moral Insanity.” Today, we are offering our readers a condensed portion of the sermon in which Charles Finney delivered some of the fiery words Apostle Taylor quotes in his video message.
The excerpts offered are from an article Finney wrote for The INDEPENDENT of New York, in 1873, long after the Civil War had been resolved. The parts of his message presented in my framework are well worth reading, as his words help us in this time understand more clearly the degradation of morality in our time as it is visibly manifested around us. A link to his full sermon can be found after my framework for the excerpt.

The “Message of Light” endeavor had been part of the “David Project” that originated as a genuine inspiration from our Heavenly Father, initiated to bring Light into the dark in this time. The project developed from 2018, and as we approach our third anniversary of existence, we have formally elevated the “David Project” to the more formal “LightWing Mission,” my personal ministry, which I had announced in previous messages.
These messages are freely offered and sent to you as part of the “LightWing Mission.” Please receive today’s messages as a gift from those who care. They are only words being offered, freely; yet, some contain a deep message of faith, or a much deeper expression of heart that readers can hopefully receive into their lives. As it has been written: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18 - KJV
May we humble ourselves, seek His face, seek His truth, seek His love, self - reflect, repent, and put on the whole armor of God in order to end the wicked ways of the world in which we live. In order to live in the Kingdom, we need to destroy the culture of evil around us.

How to Be Like Jesus & Destroy the Works of the Devil!
By Tim Taylor
11/8/2021
Romans 12:21 says, "do not be overcome with evil, but overcome evil with good." Here's the real challenge, almost 90% of the body of Christ today has never even read through the Bible one time.
The truth is, they are susceptible to every wind of doctrine and the cunning craftiness, deceitful plotting and trickery of men (Ephesians 4:14). Most have no idea what the Bible really calls evil nor what the Bible actually says is good.
In a short YouTube video, I share what God's word says about lying. It is evil. Clearly! Well, at least it is clear in the Bible. But, if you look at how rampant it is in American society today then you discover how deviated our moral compass is. Did you know that God's word says in 1 John 3:8 that for this purpose was the Son of God manifested, to destroy the works of the evil one? How do you destroy the works of the evil one? Obviously with truth.
There are consequences for speaking the truth. Jesus reveals the price in John 7:7 where He says the world hated Him because He testified of their evil works. At the same time In John 8:32 He reveals that truth sets people free. In other words, there is great reward too.
Our time on earth is short, eternity is forever. There are eternal consequences for our choices/decisions/judgments today. I choose to live with a view towards eternity. That is wisdom. How about you?

Charles G. Finney was a legendary evangelist and one of the leaders of the Second Great Awakening that took place in America from 1790 - 1840. In 1835, Charles Finney agreed to become a professor at Oberlin Collegiate Institute (known as Oberlin College after 1850), with the agreement that he could continue to preach in New York, where he was from. In 1851, the professor became the second president of the college. To refresh reader’s memories, Oberlin College became the first college in the United States to admit women and blacks as students in addition to white men. In fact, Oberlin is the oldest co-educational college in the United States.
Finney was a firm believer that Christians needed to work to build the Kingdom of God on earth. He believed the truly faithful would be able to usher in the Millennium by eliminating the "great and sore evils" of the world, which he identified in fiery fashion. If one reads the sermons Finney preached in his time, perceptive individuals can see his words also apply in such a time as this. The words he shared then could be shared across America today, which again is in a time of tense divisiveness, and void of true moral leadership for the most part.
As evidence, I submit some excerpts offered from an article Finney wrote for The Independent of New York, in 1873, long after the Civil War had been resolved. These aspects of Finney’s message focus clearly on the degradation of morality in our time as it is visibly manifested around us in the present.
In his day, Finney was extremely well known for his early preaching, often extemporaneous
preaching. But it was reported that his preaching style was more representative of an attorney delivering arguments in a courtroom than the preaching styles of the mid - 1800s. In the “The Decay of Conscience,” Finney provides candid observations that could, or should, be put in contemporary sermons and preached today:
“I believe it is a fact generally admitted that there is much less conscience manifested, by men and women, in nearly all the walks of life, than there was forty years ago. There is justly much complaint of this, and there seems to be but little prospect of reformation. The rings and frauds and villainies in high
and low places, among all ranks of men, are most alarming, and one is almost compelled to ask: "Can nobody be safely trusted?" Now, what is the cause of this degeneracy? Doubtless there are many causes that contribute more or less directly to it; but I am persuaded that the fault is more in the ministry and public press than in any and all things else. It has been fashionable now for many years to ridicule and decry Puritanism. Ministers have ceased, in a great measure, to probe the consciences of men with the spiritual law of God. So far as my knowledge extends, there has been a great letting down and ignoring the searching claims of God's law, as revealed in his Word. This law is the only standard of true morality. "By the law is the knowledge of sin." The law is the quickener of the human conscience. Just in proportion as the spirituality of the law of God is kept out of view, will there be manifest a decay of conscience.
He continues to trod down this road of logic in his article…
Let ministers ridicule Puritanism, attempt to preach the Gospel without thoroughly probing the conscience with the divine law, and this must result in, at least, a partial paralysis of the moral sense. The error that lies at the foundation of this decay of individual and public conscience originates, no doubt, in the pulpit. The proper guardians of the public conscience have, I fear, very much neglected to expound and insist upon obedience to the moral law.
He proceeds to what he exposes as the heart of the matter as he admonished the minsters:
They seem to hold up a different standard from that which is inculcated in Christ's Sermon on the Mount, which was Christ's exposition of the moral law. Christ expressly taught in that sermon that there was no salvation without conformity to the rule of life laid down in that sermon. True faith in Christ will always and inevitably beget a holy life. But I fear it has become fashionable to preach what amounts to an antinomian gospel. The rule of life promulgated in the Gospel is precisely that of the moral law. These four things are expressly affirmed of true faith, of the faith of the Gospel:
1st. "It establishes the law."
2d. "It works by love."
3d. "It purifies the heart."
4th. "It overcomes the world."
Finney is very clear in his admonitions, and he demonstrates that he was truly on the side of God in the battle for the soul of this nation in his time.
I believe the only possible way to arrest this downward tendency in private and
public morals is the holding up from the pulpits in this land, with unsparing
faithfulness, the whole Gospel of God, including as the only rule of life the perfect and holy law of God.
Yet, Finney was not popular with those “ministers” he was criticizing. His message at that time, as it would be now, was hard to digest for people who preferred preachers of pablum over preachers of principles rooted in the Bible.
Let our railroad rings, our stock gamblers, our officials of every grade hear from its pulpit, if they come within the sound, such wholesome Puritanical preaching as will arouse them to better thoughts and a better life. Away with this milk-and-water
preaching of a love of Christ that has no holiness or moral discrimination in it. Away with preaching a love of God that is not angry with sinners every day. Away with preaching a Christ not crucified for sin.
The conclusion of his article is the part Apostle Taylor quotes from his video. Finney concludes in a strong way. Each sentence of his conclusion could serve as a prophecy for what has become of America in such a time as this. He urged the ministers of the day to take responsibility for the care of their church members, and for the care of our fragile Republic...
Brethren, our preaching will bear its legitimate fruits.
If immorality prevails in the land, the fault is ours in a great degree.
If there is a decay of conscience, the pulpit is responsible for it.
If the public press lacks moral discrimination, the pulpit is responsible for it.
If the church is degenerate and worldly, the pulpit is responsible for it.
If the world loses its interest in religion, the pulpit is responsible for it.
If Satan rules in our halls of legislation, the pulpit is responsible for it.
If our politics become so corrupt that the very foundations of our government are ready to fall away, the pulpit is responsible for it.
Let us not ignore this fact, my dear brethren; but let us lay it to heart, and be thoroughly awake to our responsibility in respect to the morals of this nation.
Unfortunately, Finney’s words were buried within the dust and cobwebs of time. The words of the prophets have often gone unheeded. Finney’s words were not just for ministers in his time, they are also for the preachers of the present period of time. It is perhaps the most important period of human history, and we need to get it right in such a time as this.
