The Sermon on the Mount
Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him.
The Beatitudes
And he opened his mouth and taught them, saying:
Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you...”
Matthew 5: 1-12 (English Standard Version)

It is human nature to want to be in control, isn’t it? At some point, even toddlers will say, “my do it!” That instinctive urge never leaves most people, most leaders, and even most nations. Yet, sometimes we are just not able to handle the task at hand.
Today is “United Nations Day,” a commemoration of the founding of a global organization in order to seek peace in the world. In today’s article, “The UN and the Elusive Quest for Peace,” Dennis Jamison recounts the history of the organization and its desire to assure peace in our time. He also takes us to God’s word, which tells us that God has shown us where to find peace, yet mankind continues to look elsewhere.
We are still the toddler…”my do it.” “Don’t worry God, I’ve got this.”
Without a doubt, there are two problems with mankind’s search for peace. The first is that most don’t know what they are looking for when they seek peace. The apostle Paul makes it clear in his letter to the Philippians:
“Rejoice in the Lord always! I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near. Do not worry about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:4-7
The second problem is, mankind is, by nature, sinful. No organization, be it neighborhood focused or global, can eliminate sin.
Happy United Nations Day!

The “Message of Light” endeavor had been part of the “David Project” that originated as a genuine inspiration from our Heavenly Father, initiated to bring Light into the dark in this time. The project developed from 2018, and as we approach our third anniversary of existence, we have formally elevated the “David Project” to the more formal “LightWing Mission,” my personal ministry, which I had announced in previous messages.
These messages are freely offered and sent to you as part of the “LightWing Mission.” Please receive today’s messages as a gift from those who care. They are only words being offered, freely; yet, some contain a deep message of faith, or a much deeper expression of heart that readers can hopefully receive into their lives. As it has been written: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18 - KJV
May we humble ourselves, seek God’s face, but especially seek His Mind, His Heart, and truly seek His Will for us in this time. May we determine to become better stewards of His Garden, and may we take greater responsibility to re-establish His dominion - seeking to reclaim “One Nation Under God.”

I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call— one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But grace was given to each one of us according to the measure of Christ's gift. Ephesians 4:1-7 (ESV)
The UN and the Elusive Quest for Peace

Today is considered a world holiday. The United Nations certainly considers “United Nations Day” a holiday, or at least a day of remembrance of the organization’s creation when the original charter was signed on October 24, 1945.
At the time of the UN’s founding, one of the most destructive and violent wars in human history had come to a close. It seemed that hope could be held out for an international organization focused upon fostering world peace. Yet, in less than 80 years, the world is once again facing desperate and uncertain times in which events are unraveling in a similar way, prior to the outbreak of World War II.
Today, many people on the planet are uncertain that the U.N. is capable, as organized, to promote and perpetuate peace around the world. Yet, only 80 years ago, not so much hope existed for such an international organization. The concept existed, but genuine hope in the effectiveness of promoting world peace, let alone perpetuating global peace did not truly exist. The world had been plunged into a global conflict before World War II. This was the first world war that was known at the time as the Great War - the “war to end all wars.” Except it didn’t.
Once the war broke out in Europe near the end of summer in 1914, the President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson, issued a proclamation of neutrality on August 4, 1914. The intent was basically to announce to the world the nations’ neutral position, with the broad expectation that American businesses could maintain trade with their European business partners as they had before the outbreak of hostilities. U.S. businesses had traded with most European nations at the time, and it was definitely difficult for people in our country to simply choose sides in the complex web of political entanglements. For the most part, Americans could not comprehend why the nation should get involved.
At the outset, the continent-wide conflict appeared to be merely regional between the nation of Serbia and the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. On June 28, 1914, Archduke Ferdinand, heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary, was assassinated. But, unfortunately, the regional conflict escalated to incredible proportions within a month. Nation after another aligned with their “friendly nations” as they prepared for violent warfare. By August, the conflict turned ugly as it engulfed Europe. Austria-Hungary had invaded Serbia, the Russians had mobilized for war, and Germany had invaded Belgium, hell bent on taking dominion of France. The regional conflict had not only engulfed all of Christian Europe, but also the Islamic Ottoman Empire as well.
Despite everything, President Wilson tried to hold onto the concept of neutrality and
resisted the efforts of those in Congress who wanted to declare war. Wilson’s Fourteen Points helped to lay the foundation for the Armistice on November 11th. The Armistice led to the efforts to discuss peace at Versailles. Part of the Treaty of Versailles included President Wilson’s plan to establish a “League of Nations.” This was Wilson’s brainchild and a bold attempt at establishing an organization that could enforce the peace and the stability that had been established under the “peace” treaty. Unfortunately, after World War I, the world became more violent than anyone could imagine as World War II proved the failure of the League.
While the League of Nations was the noble vision of an American president, the United Nations was formulated upon that foundation through another American president with an equally noble vision, in the midst of another global war. The concept of “United Nations,” the word choice of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, attempted to rectify the failures of the League of Nations. Roosevelt firmly believed the nations fighting against the Axis Powers to be united. But in reality, the nations were only united to defeat three dictators: Hitler, Mussolini, and Tojo, or the Empire of Japan. A fourth dictator, Joseph Stalin, had his own ideas about the “unity” of those allied nations. The Communists sought “more important ideals.”
Unfortunately having the Soviet Union, controlled by dictator Stalin, within the core five nations that formed the U.N. Security Council meant that the idea of “united nations” was sure to be an underlying misnomer. In the original vision of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Winston Churchill, the ideal of the United Nations was initially conceived when the two leaders met and agreed upon the principles of the Atlantic Charter that declared peace an essential foundational goal of the UN: “… they hope to see established a peace which will afford to all nations the means of dwelling in safety within their own boundaries, and which will afford assurance that all men in all lands may live out their lives in freedom…” Except it wasn’t.
Unfortunately, it was doomed at the outset. Since October 24th, 1945, the U.N. has only fulfilled its intended purpose three times as outlined under its charter. The U.N. Security Council has only used its legal authority under Chapter VII to use armed force to resolve serious threats in order to “maintain or restore international peace and security” in 1950 in Korea, in 1991 in Kuwait, and in 2011 in Libya. Chapter VII of the U.N. charter is what provides stronger power of authority for the Security Council via its mandate to identify threats to world peace, decide what measures to take in situations when “threats to the peace, breaches of the peace, or acts of aggression” occur anywhere in the world, and then upon mutual agreement, take dedicated steps to implement such measures as an action plan to mitigate or solve the problems even by use of armed force “to maintain or restore international peace and security.”
Albert Einstein has been quoted as stating at least once that the definition of insanity
is doing the same thing over and over again, yet expecting different results. On this 76th anniversary of the United Nations, intelligent people may truly question the value or relevance of the U.N. as a “peacekeeping” organization. Unfortunately, without God, the quest for world peace will not be victorious. God would have different answers than the typical answers (that are proving insane) from political or governmental initiatives.
Jesus mentioned the quest for peace in his time. When Jesus was about to enter into Jerusalem, before the crucifixion, he began lamenting greatly over the city of Jerusalem. He weeped openly because the people of the city were afflicted by a hardness of heart. Jesus wept because he knew the people and the city were going to suffer:
...If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. The days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment against you and encircle you and hem you in on every side. They will dash you to the ground, you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.”
This proves to be an incredibly provocative comment, and we need to digest this from a deeper perspective -- namely what God is saying though Jesus. He is foretelling the future of Israel in its confrontation with the Roman Empire. It is not clear why he said this so openly, as it is a message that is quite judgemental. Nevertheless, in essence, the world is in a similar state today: we still do not know the things that would bring peace. Peace is quite elusive, especially to presidents and kings and world leaders. Truly, God would have different answers than the typical answers from the political or governmental factions in their vain attempts to bring world peace.
Since the beginning, in the Garden of Eden, God gave His children choices. Even in the time, just before the crucifixion, Jesus became a choice before the people of Jerusalem. But, those who were in the leadership positions, demanded Pilate release Barabas, thus rejecting Jesus: “because you did not recognize the time of God’s coming to you.” As God gave the choice of His son or a common criminal to the people of Jerusalem, they preferred the criminal over the Son of God. Are we not in a similar situation in the United States today? Have we not rejected God’s solution to our constant warfare? Have we not chosen the criminal ways, as opposed to God’s ways? Is it not about time, in this late hour, to seek His Kingdom and His righteousness?
