In the Time of The Exodus
Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning. When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.
“Obey these instructions as a lasting ordinance for you and your descendants. When you enter the land that the Lord will give you as he promised, observe this ceremony. And when your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ then tell them, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the Lord, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.’” Then the people bowed down and worshiped. The Israelites did just what the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron.
At midnight the Lord struck down all the firstborn in Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner, who was in the dungeon, and the firstborn of all the livestock as well. Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, for there was not a house without someone dead.
The Exodus
During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “Up! Leave my people, you and the Israelites! Go, worship the Lord as you have requested. Take your flocks and herds, as you have said, and go. And also bless me.”
The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. “For otherwise,” they said, “we will all die!” So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading troughs wrapped in clothing. The Israelites did as Moses instructed and asked the Egyptians for articles of silver and gold and for clothing. The Lord had made the Egyptians favorably disposed toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they plundered the Egyptians.
The Israelites journeyed from Rameses to Sukkoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children. Many other people went up with them, and also large droves of livestock, both flocks and herds. With the dough the Israelites had brought from Egypt, they baked loaves of unleavened bread. The dough was without yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.
Now the length of time the Israelite people lived in Egypt was 430 years. At the end of the 430 years, to the very day, all the Lord’s divisions left Egypt. Because the Lord kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the Lord for the generations to come.
Passover Restrictions
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, “These are the regulations for the Passover meal:
“No foreigner may eat it. Any slave you have bought may eat it after you have circumcised him, but a temporary resident or a hired worker may not eat it.
“It must be eaten inside the house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of the bones. The whole community of Israel must celebrate it.
“A foreigner residing among you who wants to celebrate the Lord’s Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like one born in the land. No uncircumcised male may eat it. The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner residing among you.”
All the Israelites did just what the Lord had commanded Moses and Aaron. And on that very day the Lord brought the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions. Exodus 12:21 - 51 (NIV)
FOUNDER’S MESSAGE:
Last August, in the heat of the election campaign, we offered a number of LightWing editions that focused upon the dire situation American citizens have found themselves in at this time in our history. The first of those editions, not long after the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, featured a sermon from the Rev. Charles Finney, titled “Gospel Liberty.” Sunday LightWing Messages - Sunday - Love of Liberty in our Legacy - 7/28/2024 Finney delivered that message on August 16, 1843, just 18 years before the devastating American “Civil War.” The war fought between the Confederate States rebelling against the Constitution and those supporting it has left several internal scars upon the nation.
The theme of that edition was the “Love of Liberty in our Legacy” with Finney’s sermon as the featured message related to a time in which liberty is being threatened in America once again.
Rev. Finney’s concept of the “yoke of bondage” seemed to me to be expressing the concept of the internal ownership of the quest for Freedom. His message sparked in me the realization of parallels between America in Finney’s day and America today. But, there came a much deeper understanding of the parallels between America and ancient Egypt. The article I was inspired to write the following week was lengthy and was posted in two parts, and it was titled: “Parallels between Slavery of the Hebrews in Egypt and the Current Atheistic Dominion over American Citizens of Faith (parts 1 + 2).”
The key to this parallel that I had grasped was that the pursuit of Freedom existed long before it came to America, and in the mind of God, it always has been His intent that His children live in Freedom. This is most evident in that humankind has been endowed with Free Will. From the beginning God has always enabled His children the freedom to choose what they preferred, so several hard questions need to be answered by God’s children in such a time as this. One basic question I brought up in the subsequent edition was whether America still had a role to play in God’s Providence. The millimeter miracle demonstrated that God has unfinished business with America, and subsequently the election outcome in 2024 was another miracle – against severe odds, Donald J. Trump won the presidential election in a stunning manner. It answered the real obvious question as to whether there was a strong leader, who is wrestling with the Pharaoh-like tyrants of this time? This is more than evident in this time.
Subsequent editions explored the possibility of whether Donald J. Trump is not just some strong leader – as president of the United States – but fulfilling the position of a Moses figure for those citizens of the United States. Two editions in February addressed this point of view as a simple question: Sunday LightWing Messages - Trump as a Moses Figure? and as an answer: Sunday LightWing Messages - Trump as a Moses Figure! Despite the Christian Evangelical insistence of Trump as a Cyrus figure, in my humble opinion, there are several points that do not align with this proclamation, and I assume that the view of Trump as a Moses figure may elicit the wrath of the American Evangelicals because they so like to be right. In actuality, today’s message is the follow-up to this message – the Part III, so to say – that I promised in that February message. My humble request is that all people would consider the merits of such a perspective, of which there may be more than my own. Yet, one of the greatest points of perception is that Trump is still fighting and still representing citizen and Christian alike in his endeavors. Cyrus simply sent the Israeltes home and a majority left the Persian territory to go back and rebuild the Hebrew homeland.
In this week’s message, which happens to come at the time of the celebration of Passover and at the traditional beginning of Holy Week for the Christian communities, I offer a question: “Will Americans Align with or Resist Trump?” It is not just a political question for those who would try to avoid it through such an excuse. Did not Moses himself intervene in government affairs to be a voice for God in his time? If there is supposedly the excuse of non-intervention today due to an asinine adherence to the concept of “separation of church and state,” then why did God send Moses to Pharaoh? Why did God intervene directly in the drowning of the Pharaoh’s Army in the waters of the Red Sea? The “doctrine” of the separation of church and state is a myth from the Pharaoh-like that is used by weak-willed or complicit ministers of faith who do not know God or His Providence. The bonds of the government provide great temptations today for those who call themselves ministers of faith to use such an excuse to keep their noses out of the affairs that do affect the lives of so many within and beyond the church. The question is a deliberately religious question because the government affects positively or negatively the affairs of all citizens. The deeper question that anyone could ask is whether Trump, himself, is aligned with or resisting the will of God to make America a Land of the Free.
These words are being freely offered to you – intended to shine light unto our paths, as written: “Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.” Proverbs 29:18 - KJV
May God bless our readers and all of their loved ones. May God bless All His Children!
May we humble ourselves, seek God’s face, honestly repent, and sincerely support our brothers & sisters in their personal pursuit of truth, righteousness, and goodness in such toxic and turbulent times. Let us honor those faith-filled families raising their children in faith-filled ways. May we honor, promote, and protect all who seek His Kingdom and His righteousness in this “great and terrible day of the Lord.”
Will Americans Align with or Resist Trump?
By Dennis Jamison – 4/12/25
For those who follow my messages, I have offered previous reasons why I believe Donald J. Trump is one who serves in the role of a Moses figure for the people of the United States. Yet, many other reasons exist to not see the parallels between Trump and Moses – not with regard to Trump as a central figure of religious significance in God’s Providence – but with regard to him being a leadership figure who is leading his people from a trending toward tyranny to a return to the Judeo-Christian roots of our nation. This message is being written as the Jewish tradition of Passover is beginning. It is not simply a coincidence that we need to ponder the events of Passover in the time of Moses, but it is significant because parallels exist between such a time of deliverance from slavery and our time of deliverance from an oligarchy of the powerful quasi-government of elitists that have worked hard to keep their power intact.
Just as our nation was struggling for Freedom at the time of our War for Independence, and at the time of the American Civil War, this is a time of great struggle in our nation’s history and will be resolved one way or another. We will either descend into the dustbin of history, as Ronald Reagan had warned, or we will renew our covenant with God to continue to be a champion of nations for the pursuit of Freedom. One reason America would continue on the downward spiral towards a swamp-like repository of Hell on Earth would be because of the self-centered apathy or self-absorbed disinterest of the people. Another aspect to enable a downward descent would be the lack of courage to resist tyranny all over again. If the American citizens are prone to hang onto their fear and rationalize why tyranny isn’t so bad after all, they will get what they become comfortable with. Fear has a tendency to generate excuses that seem rational, but within the bigger framework of reality, end up being absolutely irrational and senseless.
In my humble opinion, this is also what the Hebrew people faced as they needed to make a decision as to whether to completely uproot their lives and move out of their “comfort zones” to a place they knew not. The Hebrews knew that slavery was not ideal and certainly it was not what God intended for His children when He created them. Yet, on the journey from slavery in Egypt, evidence exists in the Bible that start to rationalize why slavery in Egypt wasn’t so bad after all. They made the comparison of their lives of wandering in a barren land to the relative security and stability of routine food and shelter in Egypt. This perception aligns with Charles Finney’s “yoke of bondage,” which he categorized as a universal principle. And, one which I would agree with and further categorize it as an historical principle through time as fallout from the Fall of Man, or fallen human nature.
If one considers the full story of the Hebrews in Egypt, the biblical account considers how the slavery of Joseph provided the opportunity to have a representative of God’s ideals enter into Egypt, which was a land of tyranny under the Pharaoh (the king – or current king in the lineage of kings). From that slavery, and through the interaction between Joseph and God, the slave rose to the level of chief advisor to the Pharaoh and Joseph’s people could freely come into the land and live in freedom. I would remind Americans that some of our forefathers came to this land as indentured servants or slaves. We came as foreigners, and some native nations did welcome the descendants of the Europeans into this land. From this land, our forefathers were able to create a Land of the Free dedicated to adhering to the Judeo-Christian heritage in the rule of the government. There is a parallel here that needs to be acknowledged.
Nevertheless, in each history, for Hebrews and for the American citizens, a reversal of order did occur. Another Pharaoh came to power and enslaved the Hebrew people. The Bible indicates that they remained in slavery for 430 years. And, because of the interaction between God and Moses, the process of redemption began. The story of Exodus recounts the dramatic events of that time. Readers must remember that before Joseph became so critical in Egyptian history and in Jewish history, he was a mere slave. Before Moses became a biblical and providential figure, he was considered a fugitive from justice and was hanging out as a mere sheepherder. Today, we are in the midst of this history and may not be so easily able to predict the future of our nation in God’s Providence. Yet, Donald Trump has been considered a criminal and fugitive from justice and he was a mere businessman before he won his first term as POTUS. We have a tendency in looking back upon historical events to gravitate in our thinking toward the higher points of a person’s life, rather than reflecting upon them before they became noteworthy. It is intellectually healthy to look at a person’s beginnings and growing period as well.
Considering this, today people look upon Donald Trump from what we know of him before he became president, but far into the future people of tomorrow will look at him from a different perspective because they will be looking backward over time. In the historical moments, it is not easy to see where events will lead. That is why we say that hindsight is 20/20 vision. To think of what Trump is trying to accomplish –whether he achieves his altruistic goals or not – may be a better way of considering his value as a person, but more importantly as a leader of people. If we give him the benefit of the doubt, we understand his goal is to “make America great again” as the MAGA mantra goes. That may mean a lot of things, to quite a lot of people. However, in the realm of interaction or the intersection of faith with politics, one must question whether the president is promoting religious freedom, or whether he is promoting restrictions upon worship.
Why is this important to consider? I submit that Moses was leading his people from a center of restricted worship and mandated killing of Hebrew children (population control Egyptian-style as well as treatment of the Hebrew people as second-class or as “deplorables,” like the elitists are viewing Christians, conservatives or patriots today. Is not Trump also attempting to lead his own people (both religious as well as non-religious) to a place where religious freedom is not simply tolerated by the ruling “Elitists,” but genuine freedom of worship? Many people of faith may have forgotten that the premise for the Pharoah to let the Hebrew people go was to just go into the wilderness for a period of three days to worship God freely. Of course the rest is history…
The irony of history is that it turned out the way that it did. Much of history turns out to be true in a similar way. The irony of Joseph’s journey in life is a prime example. It serves to provide many great examples of God working to transform evil to good. But, the essence of my message here is that with very few people making the decision to follow the man raised in a Pharaoh's palace, as one of the ruling elites, Moses would have not become “the” Moses. This is a seminal point in the Providence of God. Unless human beings decided to follow God’s guidance, they would not have become a Noah or an Abraham or a Moses. The regular rank and file of all Hebrew people in Egypt decided to use the “get out of jail free” card and follow Moses. Especially, in light of the situation, it was an incredibly dramatic and life-changing decision. But, they had to decide to do what God (through Moses and Aaron) was inviting them to do. They had to decide to gather up all of their belongings and leave all they had known for all of their lives for unchartered territory.
They had no contract – not even a verbal guarantee – except for the words of Moses’ and Aaron and their faith in God. The Exodus represents an incredible faith event. It is why Passover is so important to the Jewish people. It is the remembrance of their liberation from slavery.
It seems to me that Americans in such a time as this are in a similar situation to the Hebrew people of old prior to the time of Exodus. We live in relative comfort and can hang out on our islands of self-centered insulation from the proverbial “handwriting on the wall” that foretells a great and terrible day of the Lord. Americans have rested upon the laurels of Liberty and have enjoyed the fruits of Freedom for so long that we seem to have become drugged or drunk on the pursuit of pleasure, rather than the preciousness of Freedom. We can easily tell our neighbors to “go to Hell,” and it has led many to the freedom of telling our president to go to Hell. But, is it reflective of what our Founders were attempting to create upon the foundation of the Declaration of Independence, or the Bill of Rights, of our Constitution?
Without respect for, or honor toward the Judeo-Christian heritage, or a culture reflective of it. we have become a nation without respect and honor towards one another. Without moral moorings, as a people. we have drifted towards immorality beyond that of Sodom or Gomorrah. Without a sense of the vale of life, as a culture, we have become tolerant of killing babies that would make a Pharaoh shrink in disbelief. Do we hope to continue in such a way, or are we going to change our course? This is not just a rhetorical question. It is a question people need to deeply reflect upon.
In early March, I wrote a couple of messages that seemed to be the crux of our unique dilemma in America right now. One of those messages was titled: “Americans’ Choice: to Follow Trump Out of ‘Egypt’ or Remain Behind.” It gets to the heart of the matter: to continue to wallow in such a swamp land of the culture of corruption, hatred and murder of innocents, or to help to recreate and renew our commitment to those Judeo-Christian ideals that our Founders called us to hold onto. Sunday LightWing Messages - A Time for Choosing: A Nation of Corruption & Hate or Culture of Honesty and Integrity Of course, it is our choice. God has always given us freedom to choose. His children, unfortunately, have had the bad habit of choosing unwisely over the entire course of human history. Americans are facing such a choice today, and there seems to be very much at stake in whether we decide one way or another. Obviously, we do not possess so great an insight into the future. But. without seeing clearly, in alignment with God’s will, it is what may be the biffest obstacle to the coming of the Kingdom of God on Earth. Are we determined as a people to make America a stepping stone toward His Kingdom, or will we simply make some convenient excuse? Or, will we rely on weak-willed or complicit ministers of faith to shape and support or lame excuses?
For me, America is still a grand experiment in human governance. Almighty God has trusted His children to govern themselves as He had before. However, the blueprint and best designs God had put in motion did not work out due to humanity’s response to the freedom He entrusted to us. As I mentioned n that March 8 message, “the American people have a long way to go to the ‘Promised Land.’” There is great opposition to the Trump Administration, for one reason or other, but do we as a free people want to embrace the systems of government that have led citizens to this soft tyranny, or do we still hold to self-evident truths? Meek people or cowards will easily say that it is not their battle. That is an excuse to not participate in the challenge of life itself. Good and righteous people are rising up to exercise their God-given rights, others will rise up because it is time for all good Americans to realize that we need to reclaim ownership of those rights, or we will lose them. It is time for good people to affirm through action what they truly believe in because all it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to DO nothing. As for me, I choose to work for Freedom and to continue to build His Kingdom.
